Spring Term - Eureka!
Year 5 Create Blackout Poetry Inspired by 'Who Let the Gods Out'
This week, Year 5 have been diving into the imaginative world of Who Let the Gods Out by Maz Evans. As part of their English lessons, the class explored Chapter 3 to create their very own blackout poems.
Using pages from the chapter, the children carefully selected words and phrases to form meaningful poems while ‘blacking out’ the rest of the text. The results were creative, powerful, and often deeply moving, as they discovered how to repurpose an author’s words to tell new stories.
Not only did this activity spark creativity, but it also helped the class think critically about word choice and meaning. Well done, Year 5 – your poems are inspiring!
We’re proud of their work and hope they’ve inspired others to try this unique form of poetry. Keep an eye on the website for examples of their fantastic creations!
