Afterschool Football match vs Chalford Hill Primary School

The Year 4 children enjoyed a fantastic after-school friendly football match against Chalford Hill Primary School this week. It was wonderful to have an incredible 19 players representing our school, with 11 children experiencing their very first football match. Every player showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination throughout the afternoon. It was particularly pleasing to see so many children stepping onto the pitch for the first time, building confidence and supporting one another. Despite the rain deciding to join us, the children remained positive, played with smiles on their faces, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The weather certainly did not dampen their spirits! All of the children performed brilliantly and should be extremely proud of their efforts. Most importantly, everyone had a great time and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the match.

The boy who dreamed dragons

Year 4 have begun exploring their exciting new class text, The Boy Who Dreamed Dragons. Before being introduced to the story, the children were challenged to create their own dragon profiles.

Using their imagination, they carefully designed and drew unique dragons before writing detailed descriptions to match. The pupils thought about their dragons' appearance, personalities, special powers and habitats, producing some wonderfully creative ideas.

Book exchange

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our recent book exchange event. The children had the opportunity to browse through a wide collection of books that the school was giving away free of charge, allowing everyone to discover something that sparked their interest.

It was wonderful to see the excitement as pupils explored different genres, shared recommendations with their friends, and selected books to take home. Every child found at least one book that they were eager to read and enjoy outside of school.

We hope that these new additions to their home libraries will continue to inspire a love of reading and encourage many more literary adventures in the future.

Numeracy Day 2026

To celebrate Numeracy Day, the children participated in a live event hosted by TTRS. During the session, they were given the opportunity to develop their oracy skills through engaging discussions based on a range of “Would You Rather?” questions with a mathematical focus, encouraging them to articulate their reasoning and justify their choices confidently.

Ancient Egyptian Diary

As part of their study of Ancient Egypt, Year 4 explored the significance of the River Nile and the annual flooding that provided fertile soil for growing crops. In English, the children applied their historical knowledge by writing diary entries from the perspective of an Ancient Egyptian farmer, describing their experiences on the day of the flood.

From there learning of Ancient Egyptian times, they studied about the importance of the River Nile and the annual flooding that occurred which brought fertile soil to grow the crops. In English, the children wrote a diary based on them being a farmer and experiencing the day of the flood.

 

Class 4 - Summer 2026

Welcome back. I hope you have all had a good Easter. I am looking forward to working with the children and am excited for the term ahead. Starting with history in the first half term, Year 4 are looking at Ancient Egyptian time, where they will be looking at civilisation, gods and goddesses, inventions and the importance of the River Nile.
