Class 1 - Autumn 2025 - All About Me

Year 1 Gymnastics with Atlas Sports

This half term, Year 1 have been enjoying their weekly gymnastics sessions with Atlas Sports, and what a fantastic start it has been! The children have been full of energy, enthusiasm and big smiles as they develop new skills on the mats.

Each week, pupils have been learning how to balance, stretch and move with control, exploring different shapes such as tucked, star and straight shapes. They have also been practising safe jumping and landing, working on their coordination and confidence as they travel in different ways around the hall.

The Atlas Sports coaches have been brilliant at helping the children try new challenges, supporting them as they learn to roll, climb, and sequence movements. It has been wonderful to see Year 1 cheering each other on and celebrating their progress.

Anti-Bullying Week - Year 1

Year 1 Celebrate Anti-Bullying Week 2025

This week, our Year 1 children have been taking part in Anti-Bullying Week 2025, joining thousands of pupils across the country in celebrating kindness, individuality and the importance of looking out for one another.

We began the week with Odd Socks Day, a fun and light-hearted way for the children to express themselves and celebrate what makes each of us unique. The colourful array of mismatched socks around school certainly brought plenty of smiles, and it sparked thoughtful discussions about how our differences make us special.

As the week continued, Year 1 took part in a range of drama activities focused on using their ‘Power for Good’. Through role-play, storytelling and group work, the children explored how their actions can make a positive difference. They practised ways to include others, offer help, and show kindness both in and out of the classroom.

One of the highlights of the week was designing their very own odd socks. The children let their imaginations run wild, creating bright, bold patterns that reflected their personalities.

Anti-Bullying Week has been a meaningful and enjoyable experience for Year 1, helping them understand how small acts of kindness can make our school a happier, safer place for everyone.

Year 1 - Balance

Over the last few weeks the children in Year 1 have been taking part in lots of balancing activities. They have enjoyed being pirates, searching for the pirate ship and learning to stand tall on one leg. The children were encouraged to stand with their heads up, one leg lifted and arms out wide. If they saw the pirate ship they shouted 'Ship Ahoy!'

Balancing on one leg isn’t just fun, it helps the children to build core strength, coordination and concentration.

Year 1 - Artists

Over the last few weeks Year 1 have been busy little artists! We’ve had a fantastic time exploring different ways to make marks and create art, using all sorts of exciting materials.

The children experimented with pencils, crayons, wax crayons, and felt pens, discovering how each one makes a different kind of mark on the paper. It was amazing to see them noticing the different textures, colours, and effects they could create just by changing the tool they were using. There was lots of chatter about thick lines, thin lines, soft shading, and bold colours – our classroom was full of creativity!

As part of our art journey, we also looked at the work of Piet Mondrian, a famous artist known for using primary colours (red, yellow, and blue), straight lines, and simple shapes in his paintings. The children were fascinated by how he created such striking pictures using only a few colours and shapes.

After exploring his work, the children got the chance to make their own Mondrian-inspired masterpieces! Using rulers and coloured paper, they created beautiful pieces of art by arranging rectangles and squares, and carefully choosing where to add their primary colours. The results were fantastic – bright, bold, and very creative!

Amazing scientists

The children in Year 1 have shown great enthusiasm when finding out about their bodies. We have sung songs, learnt a dance and looked at models of skeletons. They were really curious when learning about their internal organs and were keen to share their knowledge with their friends. It was lovely to see them so engaged in their learning.

Welcome back to a brand-new school year! The theme for the children in Year 1 is ‘All About Me’. This theme is always a favourite with the children, as it gives them a chance to explore what makes them special, how their amazing bodies work, and how they grow and change over time. The children have already thought about what they know about their bodies as well as thinking about what they would like to find out. During the theme the children will also exploring how to keep their bodies healthy by finding out about a balanced diet, the importance of exercise as well as the importance of good hygiene.

Through the History sessions the children will also discuss how they change as they get older, ordering pictures and events on timelines as well as comparing toys today with those in the past.

We are all looking forward to seeing the children in Year 1 thrive and to find out how amazing they are!
